Wow, and yikes. Time flies. IGF Submission time again. October 1st ‘eh? I should probably enter. *shrug* Here’s something interesting.
Cool, but doesn’t that have to mean your game is already available/to be available by October? Or are the big 3 giving kits to judges now? *shrug* The 10th IGF too. Wow. My game isn’t that cool. *shrug* Thanks for the heads up Tim and his mighty Blog. Filed under: Stuffing and IGF Comments: 2 Comments |

I think I’ve already posted about this everywhere, except here. If you’re like me, and decided to skip out on Travel, Hotel, and admission to GDC, you can get the meat of the event for a fair $32. $8 gets you a day (about 6 hours of talks) for either the Indie Games Summit or the Casual Games Summit. Nice. Buy ‘em all for nearly 24 hours of interesting discussions and talks. XBLA postmortems, distribution, discussion on the BS of innovative games, and much more. And GameSpot has done us the favor of taping and putting up the IGF Awards, and the Game Developers Choice awards mixed in to one long presentation. Surprisingly, several “indie” games made it in to the non IGF awards. GameSpot, go create a free account If you want more, you can dig through the talks at the rest of GDC. Those will set you back another $8 per talk. You can be selective this time though. One of the Ninja Bee peeps gave a fascinating talk there about setting up an LLC per game project to fund it. I still have many more talks to dig through myself. And that’s all folks. Filed under: Stuffing and Technobabble and IGF Comments: None |

I like Slamdance. I entered PuffBOMB last year, and was a finalist for the casual game award. Since then, I’ve been excited that a more “artful” game competition was beginning to take off. Winners receive a funky ugly dog statuette. Cool! Then a controversial game was pulled. Things are not going well now. It’s a real shame, and I hope something good comes from the controversy, rather than developing in to more Jack Thompson style heat for our industry. The situation is all bad, no matter how many games pull out or stay in. I don’t even think Slamdance changing their minds would help at this point, regardless of the intentions of the letter. I could and would really like to go off more on this, but I can’t afford to. I’ll be cheering and booing from the sidelines. Go team! Filed under: Stuffing and IGF and Opinion Comments: None |

The 2nd Independent Games compilation was released back in September (25th), and that PuffBOMB game I seem to talk about all the time was included. As well, there was a set of concept art included in the package. Said art can also be seen right here. I suppose I should go find a way to acquire a copy, ’cause I’m not sure what happened to a complimentary one. And in other news… I’m adding another sentence to this post so to not screw up the formating, thanks to my overly large image. Mission accomplished. ![]() Thursday, another big day at the Game Developers Conference. Yesterday had some good events. The IGF results were announced, and the evil forces of Darwinia ran away with most of the prize money. Curse you Darwinia, I will have my revenge! Sony also spilled the beans, announcing a service “like” Xbox Live Arcade, but neglects to invite Indie’s. How rude. And everyone’s talking about Duke Nukem Forever 2. It’ll be tough to beat a day as grand as yesterday, but today is always looking for a challenge. Go Today! You Rule! With talks from that Nintendo guy, and Will “The kids used to call me Spore, the game is named after me” Wright, it should be exciting. Oh by the way, I’m not actually in San Jose, or anywhere near California for that matter. You should feel very foolish if you browsed over this post looking at pictures and assuming I actually attended this year. Thank you whomever I lifted that photo from. I’m actually sitting comfortably at my desk, pretending to be working on a game. So to emulate the experience of being at GDC, I decided to go out for some breakfast. Mmm. You see, part of a balanced game development diet requires junk food, especially during crunch times. Seeing how I have properly stocked kitchen handy, I’ve been falling behind on my quota. So we paid a visit to our fast food friend (at least he’s a friend when there’s not noisy kids around), Dan McDonald’s. ![]() Ahh… McDonald’s breakfast. Let’s see what’s inside. ![]() Oh no! A half eaten syrup soaked bacon egg sandwich! Curse you Ronald! Bleah, so I go for the orange juice. ![]() Hey, hold on. Somethings not right. ![]() Wait… this doesn’t taste like orange juice! ![]() Have a safe day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Filed under: Stuffing and IGF Comments: 3 Comments |
