Oh yeah, I knew I forgot something. I'll sneak that up there in my next update. In the mean time, I can be contacted at "mike AT sykhronics.com".

Yeah, having an editor is a nice change of pace. I too have various tech prototypes sitting around from the past couple years, all without any "nice" way of building content. Fun fun.

hey,
I just ran across this blog thanks to the Independent Gaming blog; I don't think you should be worried about similarities to Gish -- all platformers are more or less similar to Super Mario, but that doesn't stop them from being good/fun games, or even from being innovative.

In fact, similarities are good since they help to establish conventions, which define a "genre".. lots of genre films are interesting specifically because of the conventions, and the ways in which the director chose to follow or violate them.

This is my long-winded way of mentioning that we're also in the middle of developing an Umihara-inspired game, however from the looks of your game so far, it will be almost nothing alike (aside from the 2D side-view platformer-ishness, and the presence of "wire" rope -- which incidentally you should email me about if you want to discuss anything.. i can't seem to find your address or i'd have written to you instead of posting!).

Anyway, it looks really awesome so far. And your editor makes me jealous -- so far we've been procrastinating on the editor since it's much more fun to work on tech prototypes ;)

I love this blog. Keep up the good work on your game as well as the updates! The merger from allegro -> SDL and OpenGL seems pretty good, at the good news is you will be able to compile a version for mac users like me. :) Yay
